According to the Qur'an Ibrahim finally found Isma'il
and Hagar. It is considered to be the first building where God was worshipped. All Muslims pray in the direction of the Ka'ba wherever they are in the world. Makkah was also an important site in the life of Muhammad. Although he lived there, at first his teachings where not accepted. He was driven to nearby Madinah where he gathered loyal followers around him. In 630 AD he marched on Makkah with 10000 men. He rode around the Ka'ba 7 times, touched the Black stone and then called everyone to prayer. From this point on Makkah has been a Muslim city. |
