·                Learn about the basic beliefs about life after death in these 3 religions

·                Compare and contrast the approaches and beliefs of these 3 religions about death and beyond

 

 

 

Teaching approach and activities

 

Starter:

·                State objectives

·                Recap, ’What is a Rite of Passage?’

·                Brainstorm ‘What happens when you die?’

 

Main Activities: (1 as expert groups)

·                Break into groups to become ‘experts’ on 3 death rites and 3 beliefs about life after death.

·                In expert groups read and record information supplied.

·                Return to original groups share knowledge gained

·                Complete sheet recording information about Hindus, Christians and Muslims views on life after death

 

Main Activities: (2 as speaking and listening exercise)

·                Read through focusing questions

·                Read through some of the passages about views on life after death

·                Teacher led discussion about views.

·                Complete information sheet as we go along

·                After 2 or three boxes completed allow for individual and pair work to complete the rest.

 

·                Teacher discussion similarites and your beliefs

·                Complete the remaining sections

 

Plenary:

·                Quiz on what we have learnt (time permitting = teams and competition)

Outcomes and assessment

·                Have produced written descriptions of the ceremonies that are use by Hindus, Christians and Muslims after death.

·                Have compared and contrasted the beliefs of Hindus, Christians and Muslims about death.
