Unit 8A The Life of Jesus

About the unit

 

In this unit pupils explore the person of Jesus. They will learn about the affect that Jesus had on people and the way that his story still has meaning not only for Christians today but to everyone. Pupils will reflect upon Jesus moral teachings and consider their own beliefs in the light of the teachings and stories about Jesus.

 

Where the unit fits in

This unit builds on work done in year 7 introduction to Religion. It also builds on work done about religious figures in Key Stage 2. It leads in to work about Christianity in GCSE highlighting the motive for Christian attitudes towards moral decision making.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Expectations

At the end of this unit

 

all pupils will: know about the life of Jesus accurately and describe key events in his life; understand the reasons for and the results of these key events in his life; explain how the principal beliefs and teachings of Jesus impact on the lives of believers today; reflect on questions about the meaning and purpose of human existence, formulating their own response to such questions

 

most pupils will: know when Jesus lived, and describe some of the key events from his life; know some principal beliefs and teachings of Jesus; make informed responses to other people’s values and commitments in the light of their learning

 

some pupils will have progressed further and will: know in detail the life story of Jesus, understanding the importance of key events in their historical and cultural setting; explain how religious beliefs, teachings, practices and lifestyles of believers today relate to Jesus’ teachings; evaluate religious answers to questions of meaning and purpose using appropriate evidence and examples; reflect on questions about meaning and purpose of human existence, formulating their own informed response to such questions

Through the activities in this unit pupils will be able to understand, use and spell correctly words relating to the study of:

Jesus Last Week

7. Trial and Crucifixion

·Give information about the death and crucifixion of Jesus
